The Slieve Bloom Mountains / Environment Park offer some of the best walking opportunities in Ireland, whether you want just a leisurely stroll or you are looking for a more challenging hill-walk.This peaceful retreat has a wide variety of mapped walks to suit every type of walker
- Long distance walks The Slieve Bloom Way links with The Offaly Way at Cadamstown.
- Day Treks from Glenbarrow to Clonaslee, Clonaslee to Cadamstown, Cadamstown to Kinnitty.
- A variety of Looped walks at Glenbarrow near Rosenallis, Clonaslee, Cadamstown, Kinnitty,
- Eco Walks at Glenbarrow, Cadamstown, Knockbarron, Glenafelly and Gurteenamile.
- Wild Life, Wheelchair accessable and Heritage walks at Lough Boora Parklands just 10k from the Slieve Blooms
The Slieve Bloom Walking Club has organised a Programme of Summer Walks on most Sundays from May to mid November with Winter Walks posted on web-site as weather permits.The walking season kicks off with the Annual Walking Festival on the May bank Holiday Weekend each year. Local guides will enable you to get the most enjoyment and benefit from their knowledge of the Terrain and of the Flora and Fauna encountered along the way.
All the organised walks are graded from D Easy to A for the more regular walker.
Walking Breaks
The Slieve Bloom Rural Development Society and the Slieve Bloom Walking Club organise a Programme of Walks on most Sundays from May to Mid November, with local guides to enable you to get the most enjoyment and to benefit from their local knowledge of the terrain and of the Flora and Fauna encountered alone the way. WALKERS PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
- Registration takes place prior to the start of each walk: €5 per person per walk or yearly membership of €20 single, €30 family.
- Dogs are not allowed
- Walkers participate at their own risk
- Strong waterproof footwear footwear and protective outdoor clothing is advisable.
- Grade A and B walks are only for walkers who walk on a regular basis and have a reasonable level of fitness, are properly equipped and have sufficient food and drink to sustain themselves.
- A and B walks are in remote and wilderness areas of the Slieve Blooms, are only accessable on foot and are rarely frequented by hill walkers

Walk and Talk in the company of John Scully, Gloria Carter and Tom Joyce and discover new eyes for the landscape of the Slieve Bloom.

The Walks Scheme The Slieve Bloom Way
A Walks Scheme has been introduced which will see farmers/private landowners and landholders/users receive payment for the development, maintenance and enhancement of approved National Waymarked Ways and Looped Walking Routes that pass through their land.
The scheme is funded by the Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs and is now available to landholders on the Slieve Bloom Way. Expression of interest forms and further information is available from Laois LEADER.
The closing date for the receipt of expressions of interest is September 5 2008.
