Brittas Lake Loop

Clonaslee is at the northern gateway to the Slieve Bloom Mountains. A picturesque village, founded in the 18th century, here lies the traditional seat of the O’Dunnes. Clonaslee lies on the famous Slí Dála or Munster Way.

Directions to Trail Head

From the bridge over the Clodiagh River in the village of Clonaslee (on the R422) follow the signpost for Glenkeen. The forest entrance is on your left after 200m.

A-B. Starting in the carpark at the entrance to Brittas Forest follow the path upstream with the Clodiagh River on your left.  Keep straight at the first footbridge. Continue on forest road with river on left. Pass over a series of stiles.

B-C. Exit forest and follow lane between fields to a minor tarred road.

C-D. Turn right here for about 10m, then left into mixed woodland. Continue on this trail following blue arrows to Brittas Lake.  Follow path around lake.

D-E. Having circled the lake, join forest road. Follow this through lovely old Scots Pine and Oak. Keep straight at first junction to crossroads, following blue arrows.

E-A Continue on forest path into Clonaslee Village and back to starting point.
