Castletown House Farmhouse
Castletown House Guest House is a beautifully restored early 18th century family home situated on a working farm, within easy walking distance of the picturesque village of Donaghmore – setting for the film 'All Things Bright And Beautiful' which included such stars as Gabriel Byrne, Tom Wilkinson, Gabrielle Reidy , Ciaran Fitzgerald and Kevin McNally. Donaghmore also boasts a Famine Workhouse and Agricultural Museum taking one back into a bleak and hungry era. We are situated in the shadow of the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
Castletown House was built in 1714. It is set in a beautiful rural area with the river Erkina bounding the southern end of the farm. The house and farm was purchased by John in 1960. We had the house completely modernised in 1979. It was approved by Bord Failte in 1980 and we opened our Farm Guesthouse later that year. We are proud to say that “Castletown House” has won three major Tourism Awards in recent years.
We operate a calf to beef enterprise on the farm.
