The Maltings

The Maltings bed and breakfast is a warm, hospitable family run guesthouse which has been lovingly refurbished while still retaining its historic charm and character. Our ten large spacious bedrooms offer twin, double and family accommodation and all include bath/shower en-suites as well as tea and coffee making facilities. Private off street car parking is also available for guests along with a breakfast and lounge overlooking the River Camcor and castle grounds. With our good home cooking (delicious homemade Irish Soda bread, scones and jams) and friendly, relaxed atmosphere, this charming bed and breakfast is a place one wants to linger in.

The Maltings is situated in the centre of Birr, County Offaly, one of Ireland’s oldest and finest heritage towns. Birr is a quaint Georgian market town with a largely unspoilt picturesque centre. We are also positioned right next to the beautiful, famous Birr castle Demense. The castle hosts the most attractive Gardens in the country with Formal Garden and River Garden recently restored parklands with thousands of rare trees and plants collected all over the world, rivers, lake and waterfalls. It is also recently home to the Historic Science Centre which features the many pioneering achievements of the Parsons family and of other great Irish scientists in the fields of astronomy, photography, engineering and horticulture. The stunning neogothic Castle is the private family home of the historic Parsons family.

Birr is positioned just about in the centre of the country located as some say at the crossroads of the midlands, close to the Slieve Bloom Mountains. It is less than two hours drive from both Dublin and Shannon airports as well as Rosslare and Dun Laoghaire ferry ports.
